Christmas Gifts: Rebatching Ivory Soap

December 11, 2019 by admin 1 Comment

I like homemade gifts for Christmas presents. After all, one can buy what one wants, but the time, effort, and love put into something homemade makes the gift special.

Today I am rebatching Ivory Soap and reshaping them usng angel and mermaid silicon molds.

I ordered the silicon molds online.  I use Ivory Soap but have used Dove and other brands. While some people add scent, oatmeal, flowers, herbs etc. into their soap, I like to keep mine simple to prevent allergies.

Grate the Ivory soap. I like to do this the night before, and I sprinkle some water over the soap and cover it overnight. In the morning, I use a double boiler to melt down the soap.  I add around a quarter cup of water to 2 bars of soap.  The fact is I just eyeball it. You don’t want it too wet because the soap will not hold.  What you should get is goey sticky stuff.  I put the goey soap into a mold and squish down so the soap fills the crevices.  Wait until the soap is dry, and wait some more. You can wiggle the silicon mold to free the rebatched soap — then, voila! — beautiful angel and mermaid soap.  I trim off the edges and back with a knife.  Save the soap trimmings or redo work that is irregular.  You can also throw in those small pieces of unused soap.  Melt down the soap and start over.

Enjoy!

Welcome!

I am a daughter of the Philippines and an adopted daughter of America. I have also traveled to many places so I am also a daughter of the Earth. My experiences have found their way into my stories, which try to depict characters caught in important moments in their lives, situations that force them to act, make decisions, change. I try to see the world from my own point of view, not the dominant Western one, thus my interest in history, culture, and setting. But my characters carry my stories; they are the most important in my story-telling. I have to dive deep into them to understand their humanity – their goodness as well as their badness, their beauty as well as their ugliness. Just like us. Just like each of us. I need to know where they came from, where they are now, so I understand where they are going. Just like us.
